About

Professor Kuster's particular interest is in hip arthroplasty, knee arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty of those joints. He specialises in both primary and revision replacement of the hip and knee and realignment procedures of the knee including osteotomy.

He also has substantial expertise in the management of orthopaedic trauma and the problems arising out of traumatic injury.

Professor Kuster trained in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology in Switzerland qualifying as a specialist in 1995. For more than 30 years, he has had close connections with Perth first as a medical student and later as a Fellow and researcher at The University of Western Australia. Professor Kuster obtained a PhD in knee joint mechanics at The University of Western Australia in 1999.

He has more than 60 peer-reviewed publications in the Orthopaedic Literature covering fracture management, knee joint biomechanics and knee replacement. Professor Kuster is currently Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Head of Department at both Royal Perth Hospital and its Shenton Park Annexe.

Professor Kuster recently joined the Perth Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre and reviews patients with hip and knee problems at the West Perth office. He operates privately at Hollywood Hospital.
