About

Mr Shepherd specialises in foot and ankle surgery and general adult and paediatric orthopaedic trauma. His interest is in all scopes of foot and ankle surgery including arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures, ankle and hind foot fusion surgery, ankle arthroplasty and hind foot and forefoot reconstruction.

He attained his Science Degree at The University of Adelaide completing Honours and then attained his Medical degree at Flinders University in 2001. He trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in Melbourne and internationally and completed his advanced orthopaedic training in Victoria with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He was admitted as a Fellow in 2011.

Mr Shepherd worked as an orthopaedic Surgeon at Western Health and Northern Health and then in 2013 undertook two years of postgraduate training in the UK and Europe. He undertook a 12-month Fellowship in foot and ankle Surgery in Oxford, UK at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre specialising in ankle arthroscopy, ankle and hind foot arthrodesis, ankle arthroplasty and hind foot and forefoot reconstruction.

Following this post, he undertook surgical visitations with internationally renowned foot and ankle surgeons in Bordeaux, Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain. He subsequently undertook a further six-month fellowship in Lyon, France at the Centre Orthopédique Santy, specialising in hip, knee and ankle arthroplasty.

Mr Shepherd returned to Melbourne and joined the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in 2015. He has an orthopaedic Surgeon appointment at Western Health and has published internationally in his field maintaining maintains ongoing research projects and clinical teaching. Mr Shepherd is actively involved in the training and supervision of orthopaedic trainees.
