Orthopaedic Fellowship Information
The goal of the Fellowship is to gain instruction and expertise in the assessment, planning and surgical management of all lower limb arthroplasty procedures and other reconstructive procedures used in the treatment of arthritis. There is an emphasis on revision arthroplasty and all techniques of allograft reconstruction. Experience is obtained in patient consultation, assessment and planning through the ARMC Orthopaedic Department outpatient service, where the Fellow has full responsibility for the management of referred patients.
The Fellow also assists in the private consulting rooms of the supervisor and participates on the emergency trauma roster of the ARMC at consultant level of responsibility. The Fellow has a weekly operating list at the ARMC with graduated responsibility, depending on experience. Further valuable surgical experience is obtained assisting the supervisor at Warrigal Private Hospital for at least one all-day operating session each week.
A close relationship exists with the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria and the Fellow will assist in teaching and training of Tissue Bank technicians. The Fellow will also be involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education at the ARMC University Department of Surgery. This will include lectures, case presentations and journal clubs. The Fellowship is principally clinical in nature and the Fellow is expected to complete a publishable research project. There is the opportunity for basic research in bone and tissue banking at the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria.
