Associate Professor Walter’s interest is in hip and knee issues from arthroscopic procedures, straightforward joint replacement surgery to highly complex conditions. He performs the following procedures:

- Hip arthroscopy surgery (diagnostic, chondroplasty and labral repair)
- Hip replacement surgery (THR) using anterior or posterior surgical approach, resurfacing hip replacement and revision hip replacement surgery
- Knee arthroscopy surgery (diagnostic, chondroplasty and meniscectomy)
- Knee replacement including “uni-knee” (partial) or total knee replacement surgery and revision knee replacement surgery

He employs a variety of techniques to optimise patient outcomes including computer navigation, minimally invasive surgery, locally targeted pain control, early mobilisation and rapid recovery. Associate Professor Walter has research published in peer reviewed international arthroplasty journals and is frequently invited to present his findings at international scientific orthopaedic conferences as a member of faculty and as a member of the expert panel.

Associate Professor Walter served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Mater Hospital from 2011 to 2014.
